Decontamination

How do I know if my building contains asbestos?

Only a laboratory analysis can confirm it. We collect the samples and give you the results before any demolition.

How long does the work take?

From a few days to a few weeks depending on the area and risk level. The schedule is set out in the quote.

Do occupants need to leave?

The work area is sealed and kept under negative pressure. Depending on the project, occupants can often stay in other parts of the building.

Another company demolished without accounting for asbestos. Can you take over?

Yes, it is a frequent mandate. We seal the area, remove contaminated debris, do the final HEPA clean-up and have an air test done before work resumes.

The CNESST shut down my site because of asbestos. What now?

Call us. We carry out the required corrective work (containment, decontamination, clean-up) and document everything to support your request to resume the project.

How much does asbestos removal cost?

The price depends on the area, the type of material and the risk level of the work. We provide a free, detailed quote within 24 h, based on your plans, photos or a site visit.

Is asbestos dangerous if it is left untouched?

Material that is intact and in good condition releases few fibres. The risk comes when it is drilled, sanded, broken or deteriorating. That is why it must be tested before any work.

Which buildings contain asbestos?

Mostly those built or renovated before the 1990s: houses, apartment buildings, schools, offices and industrial buildings.

How do I know if my paint contains lead?

With a sample analysed in a laboratory. We can take samples before the work starts.

Can we just paint over it?

Encapsulation is sometimes possible if the paint is sound and the surfaces will not be disturbed. For renovation or demolition, removal is the better option.

Is lead dangerous during renovation work?

Yes, especially as dust. Sanding, stripping and demolition release particles that can be inhaled or swallowed. Young children and pregnant women are the most vulnerable.

Which buildings have lead paint?

Mostly those built before 1960. It can still be found in buildings built up to 1990, particularly on trim, windows and exterior surfaces.

How much does the work cost?

It depends on the surfaces to treat and the method chosen. We provide a free quote within 24 h.

Is a little mold a big deal?

A small spot on a smooth surface can be cleaned. Widespread growth or mold in porous materials calls for removal by specialists.

Do you respond after water damage?

Yes. We work 7 days a week, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and coordinate with your insurer or contractor.

What causes mold?

Always moisture: a leak, water infiltration, condensation or water damage that was not dried properly. The source must be fixed, or mold will come back after remediation.

Can it just be cleaned with bleach?

Not on porous materials such as drywall, insulation or wood: mold grows deep into them. These materials must be removed. Hard surfaces can be cleaned.

Do we need to leave during the work?

The work area is sealed to keep spores from spreading. Depending on the scope, you can often stay in the rest of the building.

Vermiculite

View page →
Does all vermiculite contain asbestos?

Not always, but testing is needed to rule it out. Until then, treat it as if it does.

Can I remove it myself?

No. Vacuuming or moving it releases fibres into the house. Removal must be done in a sealed area.

How can I recognize vermiculite?

It looks like small, light, shiny granules, grey-brown to gold, poured loose between the attic joists. Only a laboratory analysis can confirm whether it contains asbestos.

Does it absolutely have to be removed?

As long as it is not disturbed, the risk is low. Removal becomes necessary before work that affects the attic, ceilings or walls. It is also often requested when a property is sold.

How long does removal take?

For a residential attic, usually one to a few days, depending on the area and access.

How is pyrite confirmed?

Through an assessment of the backfill by a laboratory or engineer. We step in once the diagnosis is made.

Do you do all the corrective work?

We handle demolition and backfill removal. Rebuilding is done by the chosen contractor, and we coordinate the schedule with them.

What are the signs of a pyrite problem?

Star-shaped cracks in the basement or garage slab, a slab that is heaving, whitish powder along the cracks, partitions that warp or doors that stick.

Can we stay in the house during the work?

The basement is not accessible during the work, which is noisy and dusty. Depending on the house, it is often possible to stay on the upper floors.

What do you do with the removed backfill?

It is hauled away and disposed of at an authorized site. Debris management is included in our quote.

Contaminated site takeover

View page →
Can work continue during the clean-up?

Not in the contaminated area. It stays sealed until the final air test. Depending on the project, work may continue elsewhere in the building.

How do you know how far the contamination has spread?

Through a site inspection and, if needed, dust and material samples analyzed in a laboratory.

How long does it take to get the site back in order?

From a few days to a few weeks, depending on the area and extent of contamination. The schedule is set out in the quote, provided within 24 h.

The previous contractor has left. Where do we start?

Do not move the debris, restrict access to the area and call us. We assess the site and provide a quote within 24 h.

Who does the final air test?

An external, independent laboratory. Its result confirms that work can resume.

CNESST stop-work order

View page →
How soon can my site resume?

It depends on the corrective measures required and on the inspector’s decision. We provide a quote within 24 h and can mobilize a crew quickly, 7 days a week.

Who decides when work can resume?

The CNESST. Our role is to carry out the corrective work and provide the documents that support your request to resume.

Do you handle the paperwork?

Yes. We are used to the paperwork and to managing a site shut down by the CNESST: work procedures, documents to produce and file follow-up.

My site was shut down for a contaminant other than asbestos. Can you help?

Yes. We also handle lead, mold and vermiculite.

Can I keep working elsewhere on the site?

It depends on the scope of the order set by the inspector: it may cover one area, one task or the whole site. We help you understand exactly what is covered.

Sampling

At what level is a material considered asbestos-containing?

From 0.1% asbestos, based on analysis by an external, independent, accredited laboratory. Without testing, a suspect material is presumed to contain asbestos.

What does a single positive sample change?

The whole zone is then considered asbestos-containing: every place where that material was installed the same way, at the same time.

Why does the report affect my quote?

With a complete report, we price exactly what has to be removed. Untested materials are either excluded from our quotes or treated as asbestos-containing, which is what prevents surprises and extras mid-project.

How long until I get results?

Usually a few business days after sampling, depending on the laboratory and the number of samples.

Is it required before demolition?

In Quebec, materials likely to contain asbestos must be identified before work that could disturb them.

Does every material in the building need to be tested?

No. Only those likely to contain asbestos that will be affected by the planned work.

Does the report stay valid for future work?

Yes, for the materials and zones already sampled. If new work affects other materials, they will need to be tested in turn.

Demolition

Clean demolition

View page →
Do you work in occupied buildings?

Yes. We protect adjacent areas and schedule noisy work around your constraints.

Do you demolish brick and masonry?

Yes. We demolish brick walls and partitions, concrete block and interior masonry, with dust control and debris removal.

Do you handle the rebuild?

We do demolition and decontamination. Rebuilding is done by your contractor, and we coordinate with them.

What do you do with the debris?

It is sorted, hauled away and disposed of at authorized sites. Debris management is included in the quote.

What happens if asbestos is found during demolition?

We stop work in the affected area, have the material tested and, if it contains asbestos, the same crew continues under asbestos conditions. No need to find another contractor.

Is a permit required for interior demolition?

It depends on the municipality and the scope of the work. Check with your city or borough before starting.

Core drilling

View page →
What is the difference between core drilling and concrete sawing?

Drilling makes round openings, for pipes and conduits. Sawing makes straight cuts, for doors, windows or trenches.

Does core drilling make a lot of dust?

No. Diamond drilling is done wet, which captures dust at the source. Water and slurry are collected as the work goes.

Can you drill in an occupied building?

Yes. Diamond drilling produces little vibration, and we schedule noisy work around your constraints.

What if the wall or slab contains asbestos?

The materials must be tested first. If they contain asbestos, we drill following asbestos work procedures.
